Emily Carrick works with teens and adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), anxiety, depression, grief, and difficult life transitions. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from McGill University and a master's degree in counselling from City University of Seattle.
Emily's approach is collaborative and trauma-informed. She draws from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and mindfulness, while recognizing that therapy needs to fit the person rather than expecting the person to fit a particular approach.
Emily understands that trauma and overwhelming emotions can leave people feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. Her goal is to provide a space where difficult emotions and memories can be explored without judgement and at a pace that feels manageable.
For Emily, this work is personal as well as professional. She has navigated her own healing journey and understands how scary it can feel to reach out for help when you are already in a vulnerable place. That experience has shaped the way she shows up with clients. She brings compassion, openness, and respect for how much courage it can take to let someone into the harder parts of your story.
Emily does not expect you to walk into therapy knowing exactly what you need. She will meet you where you are and work alongside you as you begin making sense of what you have been carrying and what healing might look like for you.
Sessions with Emily are available in person in Nanaimo and virtually across British Columbia.
