Meet Our Team

Jaime Baruta, MA, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor

Jaime works with adults experiencing substance use concerns, process addictions, concurrent disorders, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship challenges, major life transitions, stress, shame, and difficulties with self-worth. She also supports clients navigating anger, codependency, communication concerns, intimacy, parenting, panic, sleep difficulties, and questions related to gender identity and sexuality.

Jaime brings more than 15 years of experience providing counselling in both public and private settings, including private treatment centres, community counselling and resource centres, and crisis support services. Her experience has given her a strong understanding of how substance use, mental health, relationships, and difficult life experiences can intersect. It has also taught her that people are more than the challenges that bring them to therapy and that healing looks different for everyone.

Her approach is holistic, collaborative, and client-centred. Jaime takes the time to understand each person’s experiences, relationships, strengths, and current circumstances. She works alongside her clients to explore what may be keeping them stuck, heal unresolved wounds, and develop practical tools that support meaningful and lasting change.

Jaime holds a Master of Counselling Psychology with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She has also completed additional education in self-compassion in psychotherapy, group process, and effective interpersonal communication. Her work is grounded in compassion, respect, and the belief that clients should be active participants in deciding what therapy looks like for them.

Born and raised in Nanaimo, Jaime has lived in the area throughout her life. Outside of her work, she enjoys spending time with her immediate and extended family, playing with her dog, Tony, and keeping up with developments in the counselling field.

Jaime finds great meaning in helping people move through difficult periods and recognize strengths they may have lost sight of along the way. Her hope is that clients leave therapy feeling better equipped to face future challenges, more connected to themselves, and less alone in what they are carrying.
